Our Story

At Barbour Plumbing, our work is built on three values that guide everything we do: family, community, and compassion.

These are not just words to us. They come from the story of our family, the lives of our founders, and the way we believe people should be treated when they trust us with their home.

The Barbour family legacy in the trades began in Connecticut in 1952. For generations, the family worked in building and general contracting, earning trust through hard work, craftsmanship, and standing behind the job. That legacy taught us something we still carry today: when you work on someone’s home, you are not just working on a structure. You are caring for the place where life happens, where families gather, and where people should feel safe.

For Dan Barbour, that lesson started early. He began framing houses at just 16 years old and worked part-time in the family business for years before coming on board full-time. From a young age, he learned what it meant to build with pride, take responsibility for the work, and understand that what you do affects real people and real families.

But Dan’s life also took him into service far beyond the jobsite.

He spent nearly two decades in law enforcement, where accountability, protection, and public trust were part of everyday life. Those years shaped his belief that service is about more than skill. It is about responsibility. It is about showing up for people when they need help and protecting what matters most to them.

Dan also traveled the world and volunteered as an anti-poaching officer in West Africa, helping protect wetlands of economic importance. Those wetlands were not only environmentally significant. They were also deeply important to the local Indigenous communities whose livelihoods depended on them. That experience left a lasting impression on him. It deepened his sense of compassion and reinforced a belief that still shapes Barbour Plumbing today: when you protect a place, you are also protecting the people who depend on it. Dan also holds an MBA in International Business, bringing both leadership and global perspective to the company.

That same spirit of service is reflected in Bruce Barbour, retired U.S. Army Chaplain.

While Dan’s path took him in many directions, Bruce held the fort, carrying forward the family’s values with steadiness, wisdom, and deep care for others. His military service included time in Korea, and his life’s work has been rooted in serving people, guiding families, and leading with integrity. Bruce’s education reflects that calling as well. He holds advanced graduate degrees in family counseling and finance, a combination that speaks to both compassion and practical wisdom. His background helped shape the heart of this company and the way we think about service, trust, and responsibility.

Together, Dan and Bruce shaped Barbour Plumbing into a company that believes plumbing is about more than pipes, fixtures, and repairs.

It is about family.
It is about community.
It is about compassion.

Family is at the center of who we are. It is part of our history, part of our leadership, and part of the way we serve. We understand that when a homeowner calls us, they are not just asking for a plumbing repair. They are trusting us with the place where their children sleep, where their loved ones gather, and where they should feel most secure.

Community matters because no home exists in isolation. Strong communities are built by people and businesses that show up, care for one another, and do the right thing even when no one is watching. We want Barbour Plumbing to be the kind of company families feel good about calling and proud to recommend.

Compassion matters because service should never feel cold or transactional. Plumbing problems are stressful. They interrupt routines, create uncertainty, and can make people feel overwhelmed in their own home. We never forget that. We believe our job is not just to fix the problem, but to treat people with patience, respect, and care while we do it.

That is why we take trust so seriously.

Every plumber or technician sent to your home is background checked and cross-checked because we believe your family’s safety comes first. We do not just walk into your home casually. We understand that being invited inside is a privilege. We treat your space with respect, protect our feet before entering, communicate clearly, and work with the professionalism your home deserves.

And because compassion should always be backed by competence, our team includes master plumbers who bring the knowledge and experience needed to do the work right. We believe homeowners should never have to choose between strong character and strong technical skill. They deserve both.

Barbour Plumbing was built from a family legacy that began in 1952, strengthened by service to country and community, and shaped by life experiences that taught us the value of protecting what matters most. We are proud of where we come from, but even more proud of how those values guide the way we serve today.

When you choose Barbour Plumbing, you are choosing more than a plumbing company. You are choosing a team that believes your home matters, your family matters, and the way you are treated matters.

That is our story.
And that is the standard we bring into every home we serve.
